The Seven Worlds

To help launch Hennessy’s new X.O cognac, the brand tapped Sir Ridley Scott to direct their first Oscars ad—“The Seven Worlds”—a mix of epic drama and sci-fi odyssey. The four-minute-film illustrates the seven notes of X.O and pays homage to the Oscars with a scene that includes colossal golden figures similar to the Oscars Award statue. Each flavor profile, including “rising heat,” “wood crunches” and “chocolate lull,” serves as a theme for the surreal narrative. Scott called the film “pure art,” adding: “I think that advertising has realized after 30 years that it must shift back to entertainment and stop treating their customers like demographics.”
